This wine is a great example of what Vacqueryas offers with it’s bold yet approachable palate. In the glass, it pours a dark and mysterious red. Aromas of honey, cinnamon and violets are blended with dried plum, a touch of chocolate, overripe blackberries and cassis on the palate. Super rich and bold upfront yet delicate and whafty on the finish. Super delish!! This is a really nice alternative to more of the leaner Côtes-du-Rhône wines since it offers a bit more of a bold statement. Truly a beautiful expression of what the terroir offers.
Eric Bouletin's father died when he was 15 and one year later, he left school to help his mother at the domaine. He sold the grapes from the domaine, which has owned the parcel of "Les Restanques de Cabassole" since 1723, to the coop until 2000 when he began to make his own wine. He produces less than 300cs of Vacqueyras from 1.5ha of old vine (some planted in 1915) Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre with yields of about 30hl/ha. In 2012, he has released an entry level Vacqueyras, "La Grande Terre" more approachable in its youth than the Restanques. Very elegant wines, almost more Burgundian than Rhodanien.
Roucas Toumba or “the fallen rock” in old Provençal, from the name of the very old locality, is a small family property located in Vacqueyras. The Bouletin family is one of the oldest in the village, its traces can be found in the archives from 1580.
Bringing the grapes to the cooperative cellar of the village when he started out, Eric decided in 2006 to create his own cellar and thus to produce his wines from this fragmented vineyard made up of part of old vines.
Fauna, flora, birds having always interested Eric, the management of the vineyard in organic culture quickly became obvious, a choice of life far from the Bio business.
