One of the best traditional wineries from the mountain region of Valtellina near the Swiss border. Here, the Nebbiolo grape attains the finesse and precision of Pinot Noir. This scrumptious, Burgundy-style red is full of ripe red berries and a firm tannic grip on the end.
Tucked in between the Orobic and Retic Alps just south of the Italian-Swiss border, you’ll find the terraced vineyards of ARPEPE. The vineyards in Valtellina stretch over steep and stony slopes, where nature has been the farmer for centuries. It is an extremely labor-intensive environment for winemaking, and one where labor is rewarded with some of the most beautiful and haunting expressions of the Nebbiolo grape made anywhere. ARPEPE is named after the winery’s founder Arturo Pelizzatti Perego. The Perego family is in it’s fifth-generation of winemakers, and ARPEPE is considered by many to be the pinnacle producer of Valtellina.
