2018 Acoya Red Blend: Napa Valley, California

Tasting Notes

This Red Blend offers aromas of dark fruit, black cherry, dark chocolate, and raspberry with hints of vanilla, toast and leather from the oak ageing. On the palate, the wine is lush and full-bodied with well-integrated tannins. This is a full-flavored red wine ideal to pair with red meats, poultry, lamb, or steak. Great ageing potential.

Winery Details

Touched by the warmth of the golden Californian sun, swirled by dainty wisps of fog, and caressed by soft, salty winds, the Petaluma Gap is a beautifully unique place that produces a beautifully unique wine.

Spanning Sonoma and Marin Counties, 32 miles north of San Francisco, this inland valley provides the perfect conditions for growing wine grapes. It's a newly-approved AVA (American Viticultural Area) that's fast becoming the superstar of the wine scene. The temperature here can shift 50 degrees throughout a single day - but it's the region's famous wind that creates the grapes' incredible, unique flavor.

When describing how this natural phenomenon generates such a distinctive product, local growers simply say "wind to wine". Under these gently windswept conditions, the grapes grow in smaller bunches and develop thicker skins. Since phenolic compounds are more prevalent in the skins, the flavor of the grapes is notably intensified.

The coastal influence on the terroir in the Petaluma Gap is undeniable, with the Pacific Ocean breezes being integral to the balanced flavor and aroma of the end product. The result of this pure, wild happenstance of nature is a smooth, elegant wine that's rich with the taste of plump dark fruits, warm comforting spices, and a deeper underlying earthiness.

Of the 60 acres of Avid Vineyard territory in the Petaluma Gap, which is cooperative with Acoya, 10 are planted with our premium Pinot Noir grapes. They're estate-grown under meticulous management to ensure the finest quality and optimal maturity at the time of harvest. We believe this produces an exceptional Pinot Noir that is both tantalizingly daring and effortlessly drinkable.

The Petaluma Gap is a truly remarkable region overflowing with the most sensational wine grapes. As with all good wines, Avid Vineyards and Acoya Wines have an intriguing story behind them; a story which tells of a breath of wind that blesses us with a bounty of wonderful wine.
