2017 40/40 Cabernet Franc: Mendoza, Argentina


Tasting Notes

A great marriage of old world and new world. Characteristics of spice, pepper, cedar, bell pepper, cocoa, blackberry, blueberry, and plum. Dry with supple tannin.

Winery Details

Lucas Pfister is an Argentinean agronomist  with european roots, he studied viticulture and enology in Montpellier, Bordeaux and Lisbon. Then, he had the chance to work in different wine regions throughout the world, such as Saint-Emilion, Margaret River (Western Australia), Alto Adige (Italy), Mendoza and Germany. In 2013, he started 40/40 in Ugarteche/Mendoza (Lujan de Cuyo), on the family estate Finca La Sofia. Since 2015 he makes one vintage in Mendoza with 40/40, the other in Alto-Aldige (Italy) at Alois Lageder (biodynamic winery).

The estate is located on the famous ruta 40 at kilometer 40 south of Mendoza in Ugarteche (Lujan de Cuyo). The vineyards are 890 meters above sea level, just in front of the Andes. The climate is continental with extremely low annual rainfalls (230mm/year). The grapes produced are very healthy with minimal intervention. The significant temperature variations between the hot summer days and cool nights result in high quality grapes with complex aromas perfect for red wine.
