2016 Château Grand Jean Bordeaux Rouge: Bordeaux, France

$17.00

Tasting Notes

A highly approachable red Bordeaux. This wine shows with a deep red brick color. A nose of vibrant red and black fruits, such as strawberries, black currants, and blackberries. The palate greets you with the taste of fresh picked blackberries, hints of earth and notes of vanilla. The finish is round and well balanced.

Winery Details

The first writings of the Dulon family date back to 1737, handed down from father to son for more than 250 years in the Entre Deux Mers region. Bertrand Dulon, native of Soulignac and valet in the service of the priest François de Solirenne, married Marguerite Patrovilleau on May 30, 1737. Together they ran an inn in their native village until Bertrand seize the opportunity to buy a room a few kilometers away, from Etienne Milh, winemaker.

Despite its dilapidated state, Bertrand and Marguerite are happy to become buyers and choose to maintain the adjoining land planted with vines. Bertrand Dulon then became an innkeeper-winegrower and unwittingly predestined future generations to the wine world.

Bertrand and Marguerite Dulon's legacy consisted of 2 hectares of vines. Jean Dulon, their son, will continue an approach initiated by his father: the expansion of wine-growing areas. The property was thus passed down from generation to generation.

Now the Dulon family are the owners of 3 Chateaux which represent 150 hectares of vines, which spread into the villages of Soulignac, Targon, and Langoiran. The orientation of these vineyards to the surrounding hills and rivers make for a diverse range of suitable grape-growing conditions

From an estate 25 miles south-east of the city of Bordeaux, the terroir is renowned as essentially a white wine-making commune, with three distinct vineyards that each ripen at different times.

This wine is from Entre-Deux-Mers ("between two seas"), a substantial slice of the Bordeaux region between the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers, which form the area's southern and northern boundaries.
